Would short selling a house have a big negative impact on my credit score?
It’s a second home (not primary residence). And if I were to short sale this year when the economy is still bad, would it have a big negative impact on my credit score?

A Short Sale, will impact your credit score, expect it to drop in the region of about 200 points (depending on your lender). You will probably have issues for credit for 2 years as lenders will take caution when providing you credit.
Also there are TAX implications (one of the factors most people forget) when you short sale your property.
Oh and not to mention the bank will want the remainder of the outstanding debt as it is not your primary residence you would most likely not quality for debt forgiveness.
What i would recommend in your situation is to find a property investor of some sort and have them agree a “Lease Option” which is they agree to pay your mortgage on your property for X amount of years and in return they tend to sub-let the property out.
Yet your mortgage is getting covered 100% regardless of interest, inflation or economic growth.
