What Is The Best Thing About Becoming A Snowboard Instructor?
If being a snowboard instructor itself isn’t cool enough, there’s actually so much more to this job that’s awesome. Generally speaking, becoming a snowboard instructor is viewed as one of the best jobs going, perpetually travelling around the world, meeting lots of people and performing the sport that you love.
It’s a cool sport
Ever since its inception in the 1960′s, snowboarding has carried with it a culture of coolness. The sport was developed utilising a range of board sports such as Skiing, surfing, and skateboarding. Very soon it became the sport of the young and hip and a direct rivalry emerged between snowboarding and skiing.
Suffice to say that nearly 50 years on, there is still a healthy rivalry, but much less serious than when first discovered. What still remains today though is the view that snowboarding carries with it a cultural following which today crosses many demographics and is constantly reaching out to new budding snowboarders regardless of age, class, race and much more.
It’s a cool job
Now, if being a snowboarder isn’t cool enough, then being the person who gets to instruct others must be even better. Generally speaking, those that get to instruct any sport are considered to be pretty special. You have the knowledge and skills to help pass onto those who really want to get involved, and if you’re good at it, you can develop a good name and generate lots more business.
What’s more, fully qualified and experienced snowboard instructors get to travel the world working different ski seasons. So for six months you could be working on the French or Swiss Alps at exclusive resorts such as val d’isere, then you could travel to somewhere in the southern hemisphere such as New Zealand and work at amazing locations such as Queenstown or Wanaka.
You meet cool people
Working as a snowboard instructor is really like no other job. Forget the 9 – 5 hours, forget staring in front of a computer monitor or going to boring meetings. Your job takes you to the highest mountains, where you will get to perform the sport you love and impart your knowledge onto others.
And when you’re not doing that, you’ll either be letting your hair down, blowing off some steam at one of the many resort bars and restaurants, or networking at the resorts drumming up business. Either way this job is a very sociable one; and there isn’t a day that passes where you won’t meet someone new.
Think about all the different people you will coach. Families, kids and adults, from all over the world. What’s not cool about talking to people and finding out about where they are from, the chances are, if you have followed snowboarding seasons, then you would have probably visited the same country at some point.
Help with your career
In this respect, snowboard instructing is great as it can help give someone the necessary job skills for further career progression. If you are a diehard instructor, then you will follow the winter seasons, however for some, instructing is just part of their winter and during the summer they need to find another job. Well you’ll learn skills such as communication and financial management, and it can also help with confidence building and time management. Whether you are on a gap year or a career break, becoming a snowboard instructor is definitely a good idea.
So what’s the best thing about being a snowboard instructor? Well it can help with career progression, you get to travel to some of the most fantastic places on the planet, meet all sorts of people, and you get to snowboard every day, but overall it’s just a really cool job.
